CORONA, California (November 24, 2016) – The request have been heard and in 2017 the UTV’s will be coming back to the largest short course off road series on the planet! the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO.
Production 1000 UTVs, the fastest-growing class at the Lucas Oil Regional level and a hit with fans during the national series final weekend of the 2016 season in Chandler, Arizona has been added to the LOORRS national event schedule for 2017.
Chandler, Arizona (October 23, 2016) - With all of the class championships decided for the 2016 season in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO, it was now time for the final race day of the year: the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup. In these special, one-off races, the drivers would not be fighting it out for points, but rather, for big money, bragging rights, and momentum going into the off season. Unlike years past, when the starting grids would be based on the year end points positions of each driver, there would now be traditional qualifying for these races, and with the shortened track length this weekend here at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, an additional two laps were added to each class’ race distance here this afternoon. The weather was again hot here in Chandler, AZ, and once again, the racing action was even hotter, with tensions running high and drivers laying it all on the line all day long. The fans were again treated to some outstanding racing action, including the addition of a special race for the Production 1000 UTV class, and after today, both fans and drivers alike will have much to talk about during the long off season.
Chandler, Arizona (October 22, 2016) - After 14 rounds of excitement, drama, heartache, and triumph, it’s all comes down to this: the 15th and final round of the 2016 championship in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO. Today, four of our series’ five class championships would be decided (Rob MacCachren has already wrapped up the Pro 2 Unlimited championship) here at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ, and perhaps to throw in an extra twist, the track here saw a dramatic layout change. Where there was formerly an uphill straight between turns three and four, followed by a sharp turn into the two-line section between turns four and five, and then the final, square turn five, there is now a fast sweep left out of the turn three exit and into a long, steeply-banked turn four. The hope is that drivers will use both high and low lines in the corner, and the change has cut the total lap time by nearly 10 full seconds, with the top Pro 4 Unlimited drivers now covering a lap in the 35 second range, making this the shortest track on our calendar. Two of our class championships were extremely close coming into this final round, making things well worth it for the fans who braved temperatures in the high 90s here in the Arizona desert this afternoon, and the fans certainly got what they came for, as things absolutely went right down to the wire more than once here today.
