Charitable support a big part of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series season opener at Glen Helen

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

CORONA, Calif. (March 6, 2019) - In addition to providing exciting on-track racing action, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series has a goal of helping out the communities it visits. That double-barreled mission will be on full display at the 2019 LOORRS season opener.

During the Lucas Oil Off Road General Tire SoCal Shootout at Glen Helen Raceway on March 16th, two organizations will receive charitable funding while also being a part of the event in San Bernardino, California.

Lucas Oil has donated a Family Four Pack VIP Experience including a Pace Truck Ride on race day as a silent auction item from the March of Hope brunch, held on March 9th. Proceeds from that will benefit Memorial Care Cancer Institute's Cancer Patient Services at the Orange Coast Medical Center Foundation.

"We're very grateful for the generous item that was donated for our auction," said Paul Stinson, Executive Director for the Orange Coast Medical Center Foundation. "This is our eighth year of holding this event and all the proceeds go to cancer patients that are experiencing financial difficulties.

"We make disbursements to patients that are struggling to make ends meet, to pay for medication and treatment and things like that. The community really rallies arounds it. This item that was donated by Lucas Oil, the lucky winner is going to have quite an outing at the So-Cal Shootout."

Also, the 56-member Cajon High School Gold Star Regiment Marching Band will perform the National Anthem during opening ceremonies for the race, as well as perform on the midway to thousands of race fans. Along with creating an impressive presence for the fans, the Band Booster Club will have fundraising opportunities through an opportunity drawing in the grandstands (half goes to one lucky fan and half to the band program).

Each adult general admission ticket sold using the promo code CHS at http://www.lucasoiloffroad.com/chs also will mean $5 going to the band program.

"The marching band activity is inherently expensive. The instrumental music department at Cajon High School budgets around $15,000 for our semester-long marching band program," said Nathan Phung, Band Director for the Cajon High School Gold Car Regiment Marching Band. "This seems like a large amount, but this amount only covers our entry fees, transportation costs, field show design costs, and small amounts of equipment and pales in comparison to some other local schools whose budgets can top $100,000 for their marching band, whose parents can afford to make large donations.

"With the help of proceeds from the Lucas Oil SoCal Shootout, our marching band will be able to use funds to go towards projects such as the replacement of desperately aging color-guard equipment, building props for our competition field show, and the expansion our uniform inventory."

Bill Smith, Series Director said it's meaningful to lend a helping hand to the communities that the series visits.

"It's important to the Lucas Oil Off Road family to provide opportunities like this," Smith said. "I think Winston Churchill says it best - 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.'"

While the big, powerful trucks of Pro 2 and Pro 4 are often the show stoppers of the LOORRS, a total of nine different classes combine to provide a compelling night of racing under the lights at Glen Helen. Few sports are as inclusive and family friendly as short course off road racing, and as a result the Lucas Off Road Racing Series has served as the launching pad for many budding careers, such as that of NASCAR rising star Hailie Deegan.

About the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) pits the top short course off-road racing drivers against each other across an ever-expanding series of fan-friendly, pulse-pounding tracks. Born from the long-standing traditional home of midwestern short course off-road racing and enlivened by the fast-emerging west coast short course movement, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing is the premier series in the world off short course off-road. Driven by Lucas Oil and the company's founder and CEO Forrest Lucas, both of whom have been long-time passionate supporters of this sport, the series continues to progress and evolve, carrying on the heritage of short course, as well as pushing its limits into the future.
